Well, I know you have all been waiting for it and sorry for taking a little too long but here it is…Part 2…
First Things First, I am going to start out with the Maple Leafs only because I picked one of these players before I even started this article and he is doing exactly what I thought he would be doing and I know if I leave it any longer, people are going to say that I only picked him due to his hot start.
Toronto Maple Leafs: Nazem Kadri…RC’s are still pretty cheap if you look hard enough, especially with US Sellers. His numbers to start the season have been great but, his level of play has been absolutely amazing combined with his energy and tenacity to work the dirty areas of the ice, he could be a steal at the moment. It could come down to Tarasenko and Kadri for the Calder. Also you may want to look at any of the Leafs goalies such as Reimer, Scrivens, or Rynnas. All 3 of them are going to get a chance to play big minutes this year and if one of them gets Hot see their value rise on the secondary market. Reimer’s Cards took a big hit last year with his injury and if he can show some of the form he had prior to that, well let’s see.
Edmonton Oilers: We all know about Taylor Hall, Jordan Eberle and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins but, one player who might finally come into his own is Devan Dubnyk. The young Oiler’s goalie is getting a good chance to put his name on the #1 Starter position and with a better defence in front of him this year, he might rack up some impressive numbers. On a Side Note..Betting Lock of the Year..Feb19, 2013 Kings vs. Oilers..Kings Win…See Yakupov Goal Celebration.
Florida Panthers: Although the Panthers have not played well so far this season there are a few bright lights to look at. Jacob Markstrom, after being Pekka Rinne’s backup for a few years, he now finally has the chance to emerge and prove he is ready to be a #1 Starter in the NHL. Erik Gudbranson is also a Player I covet very highly as I think he has the skills to become a top 2 Defenceman in the NHL, if that happens this year or in the future remains to be seen.
Los Angeles Kings: Viatcheslav Voynov, this rookie made a big impression during the Playoffs last year and with Greene out for 6 weeks, he will get more chances to prove himself. Being in a market where Hockey plays 3rd or 4th string to other sports, his cards are undervalued if he is able to play to his potential.
Minnesota Wild: The home of Zach Parise and Ryan Suter, the 2 biggest free agent signings of the off-season is also home to Brett Bulmer. Bulmer is HIGHLY UNDERRATED in the Card World but, is considered in the Top 75 Prospects in Hockey. Could be a Diamond in the rough for Card Collector’s paired with the Talent, Minnesota has assembled in Parise and Suter.
Montreal Canadiens: The Poor Canadiens, for a Fan Base who expect so much this year will be like watching the Leafs play for a Lottery Pick. Montreal does have a few players such as Louis Leblanc and Alexei Emelin but, one player which could really boggle your mind is P.K. Subban. Yes, I know he is not playing right now due to a contract dispute but, one of 2 things are going to happen…he will be traded or he will be signed once Montreal realizes how much they need him. A Trade to a Contender could Vault his Cards through the Roof or if the Canadiens keep playing like they are without him and resign him and they start playing to their potential, we could also see his cards go thru the roof. Either way it is a Win – Win for the Collector.
Nashville Predators: Nashville is a team for many years who could put a competitive team on the Ice and never get into Salary Cap trouble, except this past year when they lost their Top Defenceman in Ryan Suter. Now is time for some of their Rookies to take up the slack and in particular Ryan Ellis. Ellis has the potential to be a first line partner with Shea Weber and will need to be to see the Preds make the Playoffs and his cards rise in Value.
New Jersey Devils: The Small Market Devils are playing this year without Zach Parise who took the big money and ran to Minnesota. Adam Henrique was the Rookie star last year and without Parise could take a tumble on the Market at first which may be a good time to buy. If is he able to build on his numbers from Last Year, see those cards rise as he makes everyone forget about Parise.
New York Islanders: Explain to me why Grabner’s cards are relatively cheap to buy?, he plays in Long Island. If Grabner played for a contender and put up 25 goals a year his cards would be through the roof but, if the Islanders break their slump of missing the playoffs, expect people to start noticing his low card values and grabbing them up real quick.
New York Rangers: Two Words…..Rick Nash. After years of playing in Columbus and being relatively unnoticed, he will be definitely noticed in the Big Apple.
Ottawa Senators: Kyle Turris has had many expectations placed on him in his short career, now is the time for him to step up and prove he can live up to those expectations. Turris has the skills and now a young team loaded with stars to play with. Can he finally break out?
In Part 3, I will cover Philladelphia Flyers, Pittsburgh Penguins, Phoenix Coyotes, St. Louis Blues, San Jose Sharks, Tampa Bay Lightning, Vancouver Canucks, Washington Capital and Winnipeg Jets
